Established ceramic artist from Australia, Minna Graham, came to Aviário Studio looking to be immersed in a different culture and community of artists in order to create a new body of work that would inform her path back home. Her research based practice took inspiration from ancient forms such as amphoras, and ancient babylonian maps, which allowed her to break free from the more functional ware she is used to making back home. The surrounding area also informed her work, and she used local schist to imbed into her pieces and even crush up and mix into glazes. She explored different avenues in her work, from adorning pots with fragments of clay, some arranged in a more linear manner, others slapped on haphazardly, and used black and red slips to add dimension to her pieces.
