Sydney Michelle Katz is a multimedia artist based in New York. During her time at Aviário, Sydney was able to have two uninterrupted weeks to solely focus on ceramics and developing her skills. In the past she had attended ceramics lessons and a ceramics residency, but had never built anything bigger than a small bowl. At Aviário however, she challenged herself and made pieces as tall as 40cm. Her confidence grew with the material, and she was even able to learn about glaze making, and incorporate natural materials such as schist rocks into her work and glazes, thus tying in her past in stone carving into her current explorations.
