Odin Strbac Low
Artist in Residence 2024 - Odin Strbac Low is an emerging artist from Melbourne, Australia, currently living and working in Naarm. His practice explores the ecological networks shaped by humans and his own connection to nature. Using techniques like screen printing, intaglio, sculpture, and electronic sound synthesis, Odin’s work examines environmental influence through fleeting moments, scenes, and sounds endangered by human-driven climate change. During his residency at Aviário Studio, the artist found inspiration in his recent hikes through the landscapes of Spain and Portugal, as well as the towering trees encircling the studio. This close connection to nature initiated a series exploring the recurring motif of trees swaying in the wind. Working with monoprints, drawings, mezzotints, and woodblock prints, he embraced a fluid and intuitive approach, treating each new sheet of paper as an opportunity to shift parameters and rework previous layers of ink and paint. The resulting dialogue between colors and forms created a symbolic rhythm, with each tree evoking a sense of movement and breath, one to the next.
