British artist Emily McQuillan arrived at Aviário with the intention of practicing her skills on the wheel, and producing a cohesive body of ceramic work. She spent the first week and a half throwing and getting used to using the wheel after 3 months away from clay. Her time was also spent practicing drawing in a more free way, simply letting her mind wander and seeing what came out. Taking inspiration from her recent travels to Italy and her history studies, imagery of the gates of hell, horses spitting out men, and more started to figure in her sketchbooks, and made it onto her clay pieces through screenprinting - a new medium for Emily. She also delved into linocutting and printing, and in the end, produced a collection of timeless ceramics.
