Nationality: Romania
Lavinia Hanachiuc is a printmaker, ceramicist, and installation artist.
Raised under a brutal , closed borders dictatorship the artist's core values are freedom to travel and building community through art and shared experiences.
Alienation and belonging, a touch of magical realism are themes found in her pieces, tying together a figurative body of work in a personal mythology.
Her illustrative art has been described by American Book Review as “raw and unaffected by social constraints” .
She has lived and worked in Romania, USA, and Japan .
Her stay at Aviario, Portugal has been a time to explore introducing screen-printing and book binding in her printmaking practice and wild foraged clay in her ceramic work. The natural setting of the well designed studios and the flowing of the space made experimentation across disciplines easy and satisfying.
