Originally a painter, Anne Foresman came to Aviário Studio in order to develop her skills with clay and ceramics, her only previous experience having been with air drying clay. Heavily drawing upon her dreams, and the surrounding landscape, Anne developed a series of clay figures, mostly animals, that she hand modelled and sculpted in terracotta clay. When it came to glazing, Anne kept her approach very painterly and free, and used the textures found on decaying walls as inspiration. She used a variety of oxide washes and a combination of matte and shiny glazes to achieve depth and tonality, which resulted in a surreal scene from Noah’s Ark.
