Kristen Mallia is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Boston. Her work explores the evolution and accumulation of behaviors and structures over time through ritual, collection, site-specific research and self-publishing. During her two weeks at Aviário Studio, she constructed tiles and 3-dimensional rock forms inspired by volcanic rock and lunar landscapes, experimenting with different materials before and during firing to explore their impact on surface texture. Mallia also ventured into decals, transferring original decal designs onto handcrafted paper-like slabs of clay as part of an ongoing self-publishing practice focused on archiving methodologies and the role of the book in installation.
