Adriane Collins

Resident in October 2023
Nationality: USA

A photographer-turned-printmaker, Adriane hunts for “found” textures in the world—her ongoing archive, lovingly nicknamed Rusty Pretty Things, now fuels a vibrant print practice. Introduced to solar plates in 2022 with the Manorhamilton Print Group (Ireland) and developed further at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre, she rediscovered her darkroom roots while expanding the language of texture through print.

At Aviário Studio (Ferreira do Zêzere), Adriane deepened her photopolymer experiments—test strips, process booklets, and that sweet spot she calls planned unpredictability. Solar plates (photopolymer on metal) are UV-exposed, washed out, cured, inked, and pressed—opening pathways for relief, intaglio, photogravure, and monoprint in one endlessly adaptable medium. Key companions on this journey: Printmaking in the Sun (Dan Welden & Pauline Muir) and Non Toxic Intaglio (Henrik Boegh).
